Tour Overview
This 5-day Great Serengeti Migration Safari package was created to focus on and maximize your chances of seeing the Great Serengeti Northern Serengeti Wildebeest Migration (mara river crossing), Ngorongoro Crater. The itinerary has been designed to include both the Lobo area (north of the central Serengeti National Park) and the Wagakuria area (remote northern Serengeti National Park), where the majority of the wildebeest migration occurs between mid-July and October. This schedule is set up so that you drive from Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater, then back to Arusha town. A visit to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater is also included in the itinerary. From mid-July to October, the migration splits into two paths as it leaves the middle Serengeti. In dramatic stampedes, the main group heads into the western route, crossing the Grumeti River. Huge crocodiles patiently await the arrival of wildebeests as they rush over the river. The wildebeest continue to travel steadily across the Grumeti region, crossing the Mara River in another risky river crossing and arriving in Kenya's Masai Mara for lush grazing.
Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1 : Arusha – Serengeti Via Ngorongoro
Location: Serengeti National Park
Accommodation: Camp, Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
On this day, you will depart from Moshi or Arusha, the base town for safaris in northern Tanzania, for a magnificent journey down the Arusha – Dodoma highway to the Serengeti National Park via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. If you desire, you will stop by a supermarket for some last-minute shopping for any personal items you may require. In the late afternoon, you'll arrive in Serengeti.
Serengeti National Park is known for its boundless plains that stretch as far as the eye can see. We'll head to the Lobo neighbourhood, which is slightly north of Seronera (central Serengeti National Park). Every year around July/August, the wildebeest migration travels through the Lobo area en route to Kenya's Masai Mara Game Reserve On the way to the southern Serengeti National Park in late October/November.
NOTE: You can use one or both of the following activities to break up the drive:
The Olduvai Gorge Museum, often known as the Cradle of Mankind, honors some of the earliest traces of human habitation ever discovered. Here you may witness some of the world's earliest fossil evidence of human habitation, learn more about the human journey at the Olduvai Valley Museum, and take in the breathtaking views of this austere gorge land.
• Maasai boma visit: You'll go to one of the famed Maasai bomas, where you'll see (and participate in) traditional Maasai dance, explore an actual Maasai hamlet, and even do some souvenir shopping at the local market.
Both of the aforementioned activities are not included in your Tour (additional cost is Needed).
Arrive at the Serengeti late in the afternoon for an evening game drive till the evening, when you will settle into a camp/lodge, eat dinner, and sleep. Lunch is served at one of the picnic areas, most likely near the Naabi Hill Gate, where you may stretch your legs while your guide completes the necessary registration and paperwork. Serengeti dinner and overnight All meals are provided.
Day 2 : Central Serengeti – Northern Serengeti (Kogatende Area)
Location: Serengeti National Park
Accommodation: Camp, Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, we depart for the Serengeti National Park's far northern reaches, also known as the Wagakuria. On our way from Lobo to Wagakuria, we'll stop for a game drive. As we travel north, we can frequently spot giraffes, plains game, buffalo herds, and elephants. We will arrive at the resort in time for lunch and then go on an afternoon game drive around the vicinity. Depending on rainfall patterns, the wildebeest migration can be found in the Wagakuria area from mid-July to October. The Mara River passes through the northern Serengeti National Park and the Mara River provides the migration with its most difficult obstacle. Witnessing the frantic herds of wildebeest crossing the Mara River is amazing.
Day 3 : Northern Serengeti To Central Serengeti
Location: Serengeti National Park
Accommodation: Camp, Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Enjoy a full-day game drive in the Wagakuria area after breakfast. The park's resident wildlife counts are extremely high in this area, with pride of up to 30 lions, but from mid-July to October, the area transforms into a wildlife haven. The Mara River is the main feature, and it is not uncommon to see the herds cross it north one day and then back south the next. Please keep in mind that finding a crossing can be challenging and often depends on luck. A herd can be spotted along the river, but they do not determine whether to cross or not until a few days later. This area is a stunning region with kopjes, woodland, riverine vegetation, and open plains, similar to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve.
(An option of doing a Hot Air Balloon is also in this area)
Serengeti Balloon Safaris: "No words can adequately describe the sensation of floating over the Serengeti." As you ride beside the sun, you'll get a bird's eye perspective of the park. Passengers assemble around a table surrounded by the park's lush plains for an "Out of Africa" English-style breakfast after the journey, which lasts around an hour.
Day 4 : Central Serengeti To Ngorongoro
Location: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Accommodation: Camp, Lodge
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Proceed to the Serengeti for morning and afternoon game drives, with a mid-afternoon lunch and leisure time at the lodge. In Masai, the term Serengeti refers to the infinite plains. Carnivores such as the leopard, lion, hyena, and cheetah can be found in the central plains. The yearly migration of wildebeest and zebra between the Kenyan Mara and the Serengeti usually takes place in this park. Eagles, ducks, geese, egrets, vultures, secretary birds, ibis, storks, herons, kites, pelicans, cranes, and guinea fowl are among the many bird species spotted here. With over 3 million large mammals, the Serengeti National Park is undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world. There are about 35 species of plains animals, including the "big 5"- elephants, Rhino, Lion, Leopard, and Buffalo. Other common species found here include hippo, giraffe, eland, impala and other antelope types, baboons, monkeys, and a profusion of over 500 species of birds.
Huge herds of wildebeest, gazelle, and zebra begin their annual spectacular migration northward in May or early June. Predators, like lions, cheetahs, and wild dogs, trail them, with vultures circling overhead! After lunch, you will continue your game viewing in Serengeti by heading to the Serengeti gate to check out of Serengeti National Park, and then you will continue your game viewing by heading to Ngorongoro Crater. Dinner and an overnight stay at a Ngorongoro Crater rim camp or lodge.
Day 5 : Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha
Location: Ngorongoro Crater, Arusha
Accommodation: Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, descend into the crater with a lunch box and spend more than 7 hours on a game drive. A volcano the size of Mount Kilimanjaro emerged from the northern Tanzanian highlands millions of years ago. The Ngorongoro Crater, the world's biggest unflooded caldera, was produced by its eruption. The crater, now inactive and teeming with wildlife, is a playground where visitors may go on game drives in search of the Big Five. The natural protection of the crater's 600 m (1,968 ft) high walls "Ngorongoro Crater" helps many species thrive, is one of the world's most densely populated African wildlife areas, and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals. It is also the best place in Tanzania to see critically endangered species. The park is supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants.
The crater hosts a diverse range of animals, including herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and enormous African elephants, and the park is supported by year-round water and fodder. Another major attraction of this beautiful national park is its large predator population, which includes lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the elusive leopard crater floor. You will go on a game drive after a picnic lunch, and then we will drive to Arusha/Moshi for the night.
