DAY 1: CUSCO – CAPULIYOC – SANTA ROSA

The departure will be from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 am and drive across the Andes towards Capuliyoc, arriving at approximately 8:30 am. After the first breakfast prepared by your chef, start the TreXperience to one of the legendary lost cities of the Incas, Choquequirao Inca Site. The first part it’s a 4-hour downhill from Capuliyoc (9550 ft. 2911 m) to our lunch place at Chiquiska (1893m – 6210 ft.). Along the way, you’ll get the first views of the Apurimac canyon, one of the deepest canyons in Peru, this part of the trek offer us spectacular panoramas with different landscapes from the highlands of Peru to the dense vegetation of the clouds forest. After lunch, continue the journey for 2 more hours to Santa Rosa (2230mts – 7300ft) where we camp for the night.

DAY 2: SANTA ROSA – MARANPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO

After breakfast, get ready for one of the most challenging but rewarding days on this TreXperience! First, hike for 4 hours uphill to Marampata (9550 ft. 2911 m). On the way, you’ll visit sugar cane farms where locals produce “Cañazo”, a local alcoholic drink produced for centuries and delivered to cities like Cusco. Lunch is in a local house with amazing views of the mountains and the river. After lunch, ascend another 2-hour uphill to Choquequirao (3057 m / 10029 ft). A spectacular Inca Site perched in the Peruvian Andes, Choquequirao was one of the last Inca cities built in the cloud forest and abandoned during the conquest of Peru. It might have been one of the entrance checkpoints to Vilcabamba, the last capital of the Incas. in the 16th century. Our campsite today is right next to this archaeological site, allowing us to walk to these mysterious places back and forth anytime we want to relax.

DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – CHIQUISCA

Wake up with a coup fo coffee or coca tea provided by your trekking team in your tent while you enjoy the most spectacular sunrise at this magical place. After breakfast, it will be a 3-hour downhill to Santa Rosa (2230mts – 7300ft), our lunch spot. Then later, continue down for 21 more hours downhill and 2 hours uphill until the last campsite at Chiquiska (1800m / 5905ft). This is a perfect day to enjoy the surrounding landscape from hundreds of different flowers, birds, and waterfalls in the distance.

DAY 4: CHIQUISCA – SAYWITE – CUSCO

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

On the final day, wake up early and enjoy the last breakfast with your team. Then, prepare for the last 4-hour trek uphill to Capuliyoc where we’ll prepare a special feast, Pachamanca underground barbecue, where we’ll different kinds os vegetables, meats, fruits, and buried underground with hot stones. After lunch, say goodbye to all our trekking team that accompanied you to this expedition. Afterward, take the private transportation to the archaeological site of Saywite: a great mysterious rock believed to be the complex irrigation system of the region. You’ll have plenty of time to explore the area, then return to Cusco, drop off at your hotel around 6:00 pm.

When is the best time to travel to Cusco?

The best time to visit Cusco is during the dry season, which runs from May to September. The weather is perfect for trekking and exploring the city, with clear skies and little chance of rain. This is also the peak travel season, so it can be busier. If you prefer fewer crowds and don’t mind a little rain, the shoulder seasons (April and October) can also be great times to visit.
When do you have to arrive in Cusco?

It’s a good idea to arrive in Cusco at least 2 to 3 days before your trek starts. This gives your body time to adjust to the high altitude, which is crucial since Cusco sits pretty high up at 11,152 feet (3,400 meters). The extra days also give you time to explore the city and its surroundings before your big adventure begins.
How to prevent altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness is pretty common when you head to places like Cusco, so it’s smart to be prepared. Here are a few things you can do to avoid or lessen it: - Arrive early: Give yourself a couple of days to acclimate. - Drink plenty of water: Staying hydrated is key. - Try coca tea: Locals swear by it. It's made from coca leaves and can help with altitude adjustment. - Avoid heavy meals and alcohol: These can make it harder for your body to adjust. - Take it easy: Don’t push yourself too hard on the first day or two. - Medication: Talk to your doctor about altitude sickness pills like Diamox if you're worried. If you start feeling dizzy, tired, or get a headache, slow down, rest, and stay hydrated.
Which is better, Inca Trail or Salkantay Trek?

Both treks offer incredible experiences, but they’re different in key ways: - The Inca Trail is all about history, as you’ll walk the same paths the Incas did and pass through several archaeological sites. It’s a shorter trek but highly regulated, with limited permits. - The Salkantay Trek is a bit more off the beaten path. It’s longer and tougher but offers stunning scenery, including glaciers and cloud forests. There are fewer crowds, and no permit is required. If you want the classic Machu Picchu experience, go for the Inca Trail. If you're looking for a more rugged adventure, Salkantay might be the better choice.

I couldn’t have imagined a better experience! The hike itself was the highlight of my year! But the memories were made extra special by Jhony, (the coolest tour guide, very fun and great energy and full of information) and the outstanding meals!! Like, some of the best food I ate in Peru was on this camping trip. They also made special accommodations for us, and even drove us to the airport the following day. I was blown away by this company. I can’t recommend Trexperince enough. Every aspect of the trip from beginning to end was amazing. Jhony our guide was fantastic - he was friendly, informative and made our trip feel very special. The food alone is reason enough to book with Trexperience - we saw reviews of the food and didn’t fully appreciate how good it would be - honestly some of the best food we had in peru (see pictures below)! Travelled with a friend and a very good time. Trexperience organised a fantastic 4 day trek including excellent 3 course meals for lunch and dinner and a very fulfilling breakfast prepared by the very capable chief! They prepared different food everyday and also took accommodated our groups various dietary requirements. Such an amazing experience for myself and my 2 daughters. Of course the trek itself is a must but the trekXperience team elevated our adventure to a truly memorable experience. As our guide, Oliver was knowledgeable, helpful, caring and supportive. The cook, Balvino Huaman and his assistant, Eder Huaman, did a spectacular job presenting delicious food that we very much enjoyed and could not believe how he did this in a tent kitchen! This food was served to us in style by the jovial Heber Huaman. We also enjoyed the friendly, support of Dionisii Huallaga, Julio Huaman, Alex Huaman, Ebrain, Higidro, Jorge. Mi esposo, mis dos hijas (de 13 y 11 años) y yo acabamos de regresar de unos maravillosos 4 días en Lares Trek. Nuestro guía Vicente fue cálido, paciente y divertido. También tenía un conocimiento increíble de la historia de los lugares que visitamos en el camino y fue un recurso maravilloso para nosotros, tanto como enlace cultural y con consejos sobre otras cosas para explorar después de que finalizó la caminata. ¡Vicente fue maravilloso, pero la caminata nunca hubiera sido tan exitosa sin el Chef Lorenzo, el Chef Asistente Ramón y los Jinetes, Julian y Edison! ¡No tenía idea de que la comida podría ser tan deliciosa y tan bien preparada en un campamento! ¡La comida de Lorenzo y su presentación fueron increíbles!
