Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Get to know one of the worlds biggest and most exciting cities! Enjoy a guided visit to the historical centre, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This fascinating tour will include a trip to “The Zocalo,” the heart of the city, where you will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the oldest and largest in the Americas. You will also see the ruins of the Templo Mayor (Panoramic Visit), one of the most important temples for the Aztecs in their ancient capital of Tenochtitlan. Next, drive down the beautiful Paseo de la Reforma Avenue to arrive at Chapultepec Park. As a summer residence for the noble class of the Aztecs during the pre-Hispanic times, it is now the largest park in Mexico City and one of the largest city parks in the world. We will visit the Museum of Anthropology. This museum is considered to be among the finest in the world. Here you will admire the famous Aztec calendar stone, models of Tenochtitlán, a fascinating marketplace diorama, giant stone Olmec heads from the jungles of Tabasco and Veracruz, and many other fascinating treasures. Make your own way to the hotel at the end of the trip.

Day 3: Mexico City – Teotihuacan – Mexico City (B/L/-)

In the morning head to Teotihuacán, “the place where the gods were created.” Enroutel make a stop at the Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, a place of pilgrimage for millions of Mexicans and people from all around the world. Explore Teotihuacan is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the country. It is assumed that the city may have counted 200,000 inhabitants during its period of prosperity. In those years, Teotihuacán was the largest city on the American continent, and it was one of the biggest in the world. Until its inhabitants abandoned the city around the 8th century, Teotihuacan was probably the most significant and civilized cultural centre in ancient Mexico. During this guided excursion, you will experience the magic and mystery of Teotihuacan. Admire (and climb?) the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. Walk down the Avenue of the Dead, visit the Temple of Quetzalcoatl with its unique stone sculptures of plumed serpents, discover the Temple of the Butterflies, and see the Fortresses.

Day 4: Mexico City – Puebla – Oaxaca (B/-/-)

Today you will leave Mexico City behind. Head west towards Puebla, the fourth largest city in Mexico, as you pass by the photogenic, snow-capped volcanoes of Popocatépetl (Smoking Mountain, 5464m) and Iztaccíhuatl (Sleeping Lady, 5230m). You will visit Santa Maria Tonantzintla with its gorgeous temple decorated by the indigenous people. In Puebla, also known as the “City of Angels,” you will see the extraordinary Rosary Chapel, the Cathedral, the main square, and its beautiful historical centre. Continue your journey to Oaxaca, one of the most colorful colonial towns in Mexico and, just like Puebla, a World Heritage Site.

Day 5: Oaxaca – Monte Alban – Mitla – Oaxaca (B/-/-)

Visit Monte Alban, built on a mountaintop flattened by the Zapotecs. Here you will find cultural traces from different civilizations, such as the Olmecs, Mixtecs, and Zapotecs. You will continue your tour to Mitla, one of the most enigmatic sacred places in the region, especially famous for its mosaics. The village had great importance as a burial site and is also a great place to purchase crafts. En route, we will make a stop at the Tule tree, perhaps one of the largest living organisms in the world. Return to Oaxaca and experience the beauty of this city, with its wonderful crafts, traditional gastronomy, and incredible sites such as the Cathedral, the magnificent Santo Domingo Church, the Museum of Gold, and the colorful “20 de Noviembre” Market.

In the early morning (around 4:00 AM) you will head to the beautiful state of Chiapas. Enjoy breakfast en route. Todays highlight will be a boat ride through the Sumidero Canyon, which measures a thousand metres at its highest point. Admire the beautiful rock formations and enjoy the abundant wildlife that lives on the shores of the Grijalva River (crocodiles, spider monkeys, and many different species of birds). Afterwards, you will pass through the historically important town of Chiapa de Corzo on the way to San Cristobal de las Casas.

Enjoy a day full of mysticism, visit the indigenous villages of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan, located in the highlands of Chiapas. In both Tzotzil Maya communities, the complex ethnic composition of Chiapas is well-reflected. They still demonstrate a wide variety of customs and beliefs expressed in pagan and Christian traditions. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. You may choose to stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets of San Cristobal, one of Mexicos best-preserved colonial towns, full of brightly painted houses and beautiful churches. With its laid-back, bohemian atmosphere, you can spend hours browsing the shops and artisans markets.

Travel to Palenque, the legendary Mayan city which perished in 07th century. On the way to Palenque, you will visit the waterfalls of Agua Azul. The turquoise color, which makes these waterfalls so unique, comes from the high mineral content of the water. Admire the surrounding jungle environment and go for a swim (if time permits). Afterwards, you will continue your way through the lush jungle to Palenque as the final destination for today.

This morning explore the archaeological zone of Palenque, surrounded by the jungle. This is one of the most important sites in the Mayan World. It was inside the Pyramid of the Inscriptions where King Pakals sarcophagus and its carved gravestone were found. Admire the impressive structures and the breathtaking natural environment of this World Heritage Site. After this visit, you will head to the coastal town of Campeche. Campeches prosperity as a thriving port town made it a frequent target for attacks by pirates. Following the worst attack in 1663, great defensive walls were built around the town. Upon arrival in Campeche, you will head on a panoramic tour of the city.

Explore the Magician Pyramid, the Quadrangle of the Nuns, the Governors Palace, and the ballgame court. After this visit, you will continue to Merida, “The White City,” to head on a panoramic tour which includes Montejo Avenue, the monument to the Motherland, the main square, the cathedral, and the government palace.

Drive to Cancun, enroute discover Chichen Itza. At the end of the Early Classic Period, around the year 600 AD, Chichen Itza was one of the largest and most prominent Mayan cities. Nowadays, Chichen Itza is undoubtedly the best-preserved Maya site on the Yucatan Peninsula; it was recently declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Different architectural styles can be seen throughout the city. Most famous landmarks are the Temple of Kukulkan (“El Castillo”), the Ballgame Court, the Platform of the Skulls, the Temple of the Jaguar, the Observatory, the One Thousand Columns, and the Sacred Cenote. Continue your journey to Cancun. You will be dropped off at your hotel for an overnight stay.

Changes to an existing reservation up to the Final Payment Date, whatever the cause, will incur a $100 per person amendment fee, potential loss of any supplier fees (such as non-refundable event tickets, park permits, and sea cruise reservations) plus any costs for replacement services.
