Day 1 : Theth National Park Via Rozafa Fortress

Location: Theth, Tirana, Shkodër

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Bujtina Polia or similar

We start our journey from Tirana directly to Shkoder.

Enjoy amazing views and the fascinating history of the Rozafa Fortress.
Stop for a coffee break in the small town of Shiroke well – known by locals for its quietness and natural beauty.
Transfer to Theth, where on route you will stop in the mountain village of Boge and Thore Pass surrounded by mountains.

Enjoy lunch with one of the best views there is in the North.
Get settled in the guesthouse in Theth and have a relaxing afternoon and a walking guide of the village where a four century old tower used as reconciliation tower and the 100 – year – old, well-preserved church are the highlights, before a rustic dinner with a glass or two of Raki.

(For hiking aficionados there is the option of an early morning departure to Theth and going on a hike to one of the many trails in Theth like Valbona Pass, Peja Pass, Denhell)

Day 2 : The Blue Eye Of Theth & Grunas Waterfall And Canyon

Location: Blue Eye Theth, Theth National Park, Nderlysaj, Grunas

Spend a day exploring Theth National Park on a leasure hike.

Marvel at the view and sound of Grunas waterfall and Canyon.
Enjoy a refreshing bath and a picnic lunch at the Natural pools and the Blue Eye of Theth, after hiking through stunning scenery.
Return via local transportation in the guesthouse.

Day 3 : Pass From Theth To Valbone

Location: Valbonë

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Guesthouse Kol Gjoni or Similar

Set off on a guided hike through a well-maintained trail suitable also for families and “Sunday hikers”.

The route across the Accursed Mountains takes a total of 8 hours with many stops to enjoy, eat (picnic) and take photos of breathtaking panoramas.

Day 4 : Tirana Via Koman Lake Boat Ride

Location: Komani Lake, Tirana

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Picnik

Enjoy Valbona’s gorgeous setting, on a wide plain surrounded by towering mountain peaks in the morning. Explore the village of Kukaj or enjoy your morning in Valbone Valley before transferring to Fierze Dam to hop on a boat for a scenic ride passing by rocky mountains and vivid green hills.

Transfer to Tirana and get settled in the hotel. (Hotel accommodation in Tirana is not included on tour)

Requirements

For an extensive hiking tour we recommend hiking boots, a lightweight jacket and emergency rainwear. Sunglasses, a sun hat, and good pair of walking shoes or sneakers are also advised for sightseeing and exploring in non-hiking days.

There are many ferry companies making the jouney to and from Durrës, distancing just 37km from Tirana (a pick up service is often included in the tour price - please check for details).

Nënë Tereza International Airport is 17 km northwest of Tirana and is a modern, well-managed terminal. There are no domestic flights within Albania.
Albania: Climate & Weather

The climate is decidedly Mediterranean throughout the whole of the coastal area with hot summers tending towards heat waves. Winters are rainy but mild in temperature with very agreeable mid-seasons. It tends to be more continental in the mountainous zones: The temperature differences are especially marked from one season to another and the north-east of the country experiences winters with frequent snow.

Hiking the Albanian Alps

We hiked the Albanian Alps and they were beautiful beyond imagination. Really loved it, amongst others because our guide showed us the most pretty hikes of the peaks of the Balkan. Guesthouses in the mountains were comfortable and clean even during the busiest hiking month of the year.

My wife and I have been fortunate over the years to visit many beautiful locations around the world. This short but exciting holiday with Good Albania to "The Highlands" undoubtedly ranks as one of our best experiences ever. It is difficult to fault the planning, organisation, friendship, courtesy, food, etc etc etc that we have enjoyed. (I cannot blame them for the little rain some afternoons. If you are contemplating a holiday to Albania I can only recommend that you consider booking and travelling with Good Albania. I am confident you will not be disappointed.

The Mini Hiking Food Tour was good

This was a great tour to take and I highly recommend it. We enjoyed the restaurant choices before and after we arrived in Theth. The guesthouse we stayed at in Theth was good and the family style meal they served was amazing! The hikes were nice to the waterfall and the Blue Eye. The only thing I would suggest is to be totally upfront on what drinks/food are included. We found ourselves sometimes wondering if we had to pay or not. It would make it simpler if it was all detailed. Rando was a really nice guide and spoke fairly good English, but we did think somethings were lost in translation or could have been better explained with a higher level. He did speak great Italian though ;)

Albanian Highlands Experience

Took a 3 day custom tour in the North Albanian mountains with Good Albania for my birthday. They were super helpful, responsive and really friendly throughout the booking process. Everything on the tour went smoothly and they made sure I was catered for as a vegetarian. Our guide and mountain expert was great and really knowledgeable. We felt really safe in his hands while we were hiking. And he seemed to like cats as much as I did! The guesthouses we stayed in were really welcoming and friendly too. Would definitely use Good Albania again.
