You'll discover the modern and efficient public transport system for yourself as you climb aboard a cable car up to the top of the valley for a hike through pine and eucalyptus forests offering incredible views.
Fly to Medellín and transfer to Parque Arví—an ecological nature preserve and archaeological site on the eastern slopes of Aburrá Valley. Colombia consistently produces world-class professional cycling athletes and you may well see them riding the hills of Medellín over your time here. A great way to discover any city, you'll mount an e-bike and pedal past tree-lined parks and vibrant neighbourhoods, stopping at some of the highlights and hidden gems along the way. Embark on a culinary journey as you dive into a traditional lunch that celebrates the variety and history of paisa cuisine, then discover another neighborhood of Medellín that showcases its innovation, art and city planning.
Begin the morning with an e-bike tour of downtown Medellín led by a local guide to uncover history, art, and legends. Make stops along the way to take photos and try some delicious local treats and excellent coffee. You'll be exploring the city as locals do while uncovering Medellín's history, legends, and art.

This is a paisa cuisine speciality restaurant focused on preserving the traditions of the local community by offering Colombian staple dishes like Bandeja paisa, Patacones, and much more. Walk the streets and enjoy an opportunity to learn from local guides, visit small shops, and purchase unique handicrafts. Capture some photos of the colourful buildings clinging to the hillsides, and appreciate the area's urban art and outdoor escalators leading up to the steep 28-story buildings.
Day 5: Guatapé: Your Omg Day
Location: Medellín
Accommodation: Hotel Luxé
Meals Included: BREAKFAST, LUNCH
Los Saltos Ecoparque is in Colombia’s largest area of waterfalls and features one of the highest in the country. Your adventure begins here with a hike to the base of those very falls where you can then choose between two great adventure activities within the park: flying on a zipline in one of the highest canopies in the world, or climbing a cliff face next to a waterfall in Via Ferrata. With flowing rivers, native forests, and traditional crops like avocado and banana, this eco-park is a great place to connect with nature and immerse yourself in the beauty and biodiversity of the country.
Travel by private vehicle to Los Saltos Ecoparque and start your day of adventure with a moderate hike to El Salto del Buey waterfall. Then, choose between two adrenaline-inducing guided activities within the park. Both options include a delicious lunch with a view. Continue on to your lakeside accommodations in Guatapé. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure.
TRANSPORT: Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle.
ACTIVITY: Traverse both primary and secondary forests while hiking in Salto del Buey ecopark. The trail will take the group to the Buey River waterfall and is considered a moderate route. The total distance covered will be about 2 km (1.24 miles).
ACTIVITY: Option 1: a canopy cable flight tour offering amazing views of the forest below. Experience the longest in the country at 330m high and 1350m long. There will be two flights along the cables connecting through the canopy. Look for waterfalls, canyons, and wildlife as you soar above and a specialized team guides you along.
Option 2: a Via Ferrata experience with a unique view of Salto del Buey. Make the ascent up the series of iron rungs and ladders next to the waterfall and finish at the top with an adrenaline inducing view plunging down to the water below.
TRANSPORT: Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle en route to your OMG stay in Guatapé.
Day 6: Guatapé: El Peñol Rock And Local Charm
Location: Guatapé

Located in the northwest part of the country, Guatapé boasts houses painted in every colour adorned with paintings of plants and animals. Sitting on the shores of the man-made lake and reservoir, Guatapé is also close to the climbable granite stone known as El Peñol Rock. You’ll climb to the top along the brick staircase rising up through a fissure in the side of the stone, and be rewarded with magnificent views of the green mountains in the distance and the fingers of the blue lake.
Climb El Peñol rock for impressive views of Guatapé. Follow this up with a walking tour around town with your CEO. Be on the lookout for colourful frescoes along the way, and choose from a variety of great local restaurants for lunch. Transfer back to your OMG Stay property to spend the rest of the day relaxing at the hotel, or choose from some of the optional activities available like a boat trip on the lake.
TRANSPORT: Settle in and scan the scenery from the convenience of a private vehicle as you travel from your OMG stay to El Peñol Rock, and then back to Guatapé for a free afternoon.
ACTIVITY: Climb to the top for breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. El Peñol Rock is 198m tall and while it seems intimidating from the bottom, it's rated as a relatively easy hike and shouldn't take more than an hour. Your legs will get quite the workout on the 740 stone steps to the top. Along the way there are several platforms offering exceptional views of the lake below and providing good stopping points to take a rest. The top offers 360-degree views that will leave you breathless.
ACTIVITY: This colourful pueblo outside of Medellín is famous for its surrounding turquoise lake and beautiful scenery. Discover Guatapé's vibrant charm as you explore the streets adorned with brilliantly painted frescoes (locally known as Zócalos), each telling a unique story. This place is also packed with loads of restaurants and street food to choose from, like arepas and fresh cheeses.

Group Leader Description
All G Adventures group trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders, a G Adventures representative, or an expedition team. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. They will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the countries visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. We also use local guides where we think more specific knowledge will add to the enjoyment of the places we are visiting- we think it's the best of both worlds.

What to Take
Most people automatically assume that the weather is hot in South America, but because of the higher altitude in the Andes, the temperature can feel quite cold, especially at night. Remember that although near the Equator, the higher altitude on some parts of the trip makes for cool evenings and you will need a warm sweater or pullover. It’s best to layer clothes rather than bring a heavy parka so that you can take layers off.

It is your own responsibility to have the correct travel documentation. Visa requirements for your trip will vary depending on where you are from and where you are going. We keep the following information up to date as far as possible, but rules do change and sometimes without warning. While we provide the following information in good faith, it is vital that you check the information yourself and understand that you are fully responsible for your own visa requirements. Visa information specific to your destination and nationality can be found in our Important Pre-Departure Information page here

Spending Money
Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping. Please also remember the following specific recommendations when planning your trip.
-
Money Exchange
Credit cards and debit cards are very useful for cash advances. Visa cards are the most widely accepted cards. While ATMs are widely available, there are no guarantees that your credit or debit cards will actually work in Latin America. Check with your bank. You should be aware that to purchase products or services on a credit card a fee of 5%-10% usually applies. Do not rely on credit or debit cards as your only source of money. A combination of US dollar cash and cards is best. Always take more rather than less, as you don't want to spoil the trip by constantly feeling short of funds. CURRENCY EXCHANGE TIP: Please be advised that slightly torn notes, notes that have been heavily marked or are faded may be difficult to exchange. It is best to bring notes in fairly good condition, in denominations lower than 100USD (or equivalent).
-
Emergency Fund
Please also make sure you have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an 'emergency' fund, to be used when circumstances outside our control (ex. a natural disaster) require a change to our planned route. This is a rare occurrence!

Tipping
On the Geluxe Collection tours, tipping is included for all included activities and meals. Tipping is not included for the CEO or Porterage. Should you want some basic guidelines on tipping for the activities you do on your own, please see below. At the end of each trip if you felt your G Adventures CEO did an outstanding job, tipping is appreciated. The amount is entirely a personal preference, however as a guideline $10-15 USD per person, per day can be used. For meals and activities not included in your itinerary, it is appropriate in Latin America to tip 10%. Though not compulsory, tipping is expected. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels and shows an expression of satisfaction.

Optional Activities
Bogotá - Monserrate Hill Cable Car (20000COP per person) - National Museum of Colombia Visit (3000COP per person) - Gold Museum Visit (4000COP per person) Guatapé - Boat Trip on Lake Guatapé

Health
Please note inoculations may be required for the country visited. It is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up to date medical travel information well before departure. You should consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information well before departure. We recommend that you carry a First Aid kit and hand sanitizers / antibacterial wipes as well as any personal medical requirements. Please be aware that quite often we are in remote areas and away from medical facilities, and for legal reasons our leaders are prohibited from administering any type of drug including headache tablets, antibiotics, etc. When selecting your trip please carefully read the brochure and itinerary and assess your ability to cope with our style of travel. Please refer to the Physical ratings for trip specific information. G Adventures reserves the right to exclude any traveller from all or part of a trip without refund if in the reasonable opinion of our CEO they are unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group.

Safety and Security
Many national governments provide a regularly updated advice service on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest travel information before departure. We strongly recommend the use of a neck wallet or money belt while travelling, for the safe keeping of your passport, air tickets, travellers' cheques, cash and other valuable items. Leave your valuable jewelery at home - you won't need it while travelling. Many of the hotels we use have safety deposit boxes, which is the most secure way of storing your valuables. A lock is recommended for securing your luggage. When travelling on a group trip, please note that your group leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the trip itinerary if it deemed necessary, due to safety concerns. Your Chief Experience Officer (CEO) will accompany you on all included activities. During your trip you will have some free time to pursue your own interests, relax and take it easy and explore at your leisure. While your CEO will assist you with options available in a given location, please note that any optional activities you undertake are not part of your itinerary, and we offer no representations about the safety of the activity or the standard of the operators running them. Please use your own good judgement when selecting an activity in your free time. Although the cities visited on tour are generally safe during the day, there can be risks to wandering throughout any major city at night. It is our recommendation to stay in small groups and to take taxis to and from restaurants, or during night time excursions. Water based activities have an element of danger and excitement built into them. We recommend only participating in water based activities when accompanied by a guide(s). We make every reasonable effort to ensure the fun and adventurous element of any water based activities (in countries with varying degrees of operating standards), have a balanced approach to safety. It is our policy not to allow our CEOs to make arrangements on your behalf for water based activities that are not accompanied by guide(s). Swimming, including snorkeling, is always at your own risk. Read more about travel safety for ways to further enhance your personal safety while traveling.

A Couple of Rules
Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for our travellers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of people in the sex trade is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our CEOs have the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they utilize the services of paid sex workers, in any capacity.
-
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When travelling on a group trip, you will not be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your leader, who will take note of your insurance details. When selecting a travel insurance policy we require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency evacuation and repatriation. A minimum coverage of USD200,000 is required. G Adventures can provide you with the appropriate coverage. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. Some tours include adventure activities that require extra coverage (e.g. crampon use); please review your itinerary and make sure that you are covered for all included activities. If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name. Contact your bank for details of their participating insurer, the level of coverage and emergency contact telephone number.

Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?
Most of our trips do not have a single supplement. This means that the accommodation is on a twin share basis and, if travelling on your own, you will be sharing a room with another G Adventures traveller of the same sex. Some tours have an optional single supplement. An optional service that may be available is called "My Own Room". This service allows solo travellers to request their own room.
-
Can I join the tour once it has departed?
It's extremely difficult if not impossible to join a tour after it has begun. It is possible to leave a tour early however you will be responsible for your own arrangements from the moment you decide to leave the tour. You would also be responsible for all costs associated with joining a tour late or leaving one early. If you feel this may be necessary, please consult us before you book.
