Tour Overview

Off the peninsula's immaculate shores, lie the beautiful yet diverse islands of Amalfi: Procida, Ischia and Capri. This 7 night self-guided walking holiday takes you on a discovery of these stunning isles, with the option to extend your time in the area in bustling Sorrento or cosmopolitan Naples.

Your first 2 nights are spent on unspoilt Procida, the smallest of the 3 islands and an untouched gem with its multi coloured houses, sleepy fishing hamlets and pretty inlets. From here you head to Ischia, renowned for its thermal spas; the largest of the three islands, it's a walker's paradise with terraced vineyards, lofty mountains, verdant forest and golden beaches aching to be explored. Your last stop is world famous Capri; admire its vistas over the iconic Faraglioni, visit its Roman villas and sip coffee in its elegant piazze, perfect for people watching.

Given the island hopping nature of this trip, you are responsible for your luggage when using the ferry and hydrofoil services. Transportation of luggage to and from the hotels and the ports on each island is provided.

Highlights

  • Island hopping in the spectacular Gulf of Naples; walks on Ischia, Capri and Procida

  • Enchanting Ischia, the 'Green Island' - spas and thermal waters, pretty beaches, bustling marinas

  • Panoramic Procida - vibrant fishing villages, unspoilt nature reserves, ancient walled citadels

  • Stunning Capri - elegant Capri town, Roman villas, sleepy coves, imposing sea stacks

  • All walks are optional with plenty of time to discover each destination

Itinerary

Expand All

Day 1 : Travel To Procida

Meals Included: Dinner

From Naples port, it's a short crossing on the hydrofoil to the island of Procida. We meet you at Procida port and take you to your hotel. Dinner is included at the hotel tonight.

You stay at the Hotel Solcalante (breakfast and evening meal included)

Day 2 : Explore Procida

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today's walk takes you on a discovery of pint sized Procida, the smallest island in the Gulf of Naples. Set off for the ancient walled citadel of 'Terra Murata'; perched on a promontory gazing out to sea, there's much to explore here including the Abbey of San Michele and the 16th century governor's palace and former prison of Palazzo d'Avalos. Drink in the sea views before heading to the little fishing village of Marina di Corricella, a cluster of brightly coloured houses huddled around its port, that was used on the film set of 'The Talented Mr Ripley'. Your walk ends at the charming harbour and pristine sandy beach at Chiaiolella.

For those with more energy, it's definitely worth extending the walk to untouched Vivara, a tiny island and nature reserve linked to Procida by a small bridge.

You stay at the Hotel Solcalante (breakfast included)

Day 3 : Leaving Procida For Ischia

Meals Included: Breakfast

There is time this morning to explore Procida's northern shores before we take you back to the harbour for the ferry (pay locally) over to Procida's larger neighbour, Ischia. Explore the vibrant marina before making your way to your comfortable 3* hotel housed in a former monastery within the walls of Ischia's ancient castle. This Aragonese stronghold sits on a rocky outcrop gazing out to sea and is accessed via a scenic causeway.

You stay at the Hotel il Monastero (breakfast included)

Day 4 : Ischia's South Coast

Meals Included: Breakfast

Head south today for a panoramic walk along a steep cliff enjoying stunning views over the Bay of Naples and Capri. Pass through terraced vineyards and traditional hamlets before a descent to the golden sands of Marina dei Maronti. Treat yourself to a dip in the natural thermal waters of Cavascura, which date back to Roman times, before a leisurely walk along the beach takes you to the charming fishing village of Sant'Angelo and your bus back to the hotel.

You stay at the Hotel il Monastero (breakfast included)

Day 5 : Monte Epomeo

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today you discover Ischia's two highest mountains - Monte Epomeo at 789m, and Capo dell'Uomo (721m). A short bus ride onto the mountain slopes takes the sting out the tail of the ascent, so you continue along gentle paths to Epomeo's summit, and are rewarded with far reaching vistas of the entire Bay of Naples. Descend through lush forest and fertile vineyards, passing ancient hermit dwellings carved from the mountain rock, to the town of Forio on Ischia's western shores. Return to Ischia Town by bus.

You stay at the Hotel il Monastero (breakfast included)

Day 6 : Capri's South Coast - Villas And Views

Meals Included: Breakfast

Private transfer to Ischia harbour this morning to catch the ferry to stunning Capri (services are Ischia-Naples-Capri in October). Then explore elegant Capri town with its luxury boutiques and bustling cafes. From its vibrant piazzetta, walk past colourful villas with bougainvillea filled gardens to the Roman Villa Jovis, once the residence of the Emperor Tiberius. From here, it's downhill past the Arco Naturale to the famous Faraglioni, 3 sea stacks that stand guard off Capri's southern shores. Leave time to discover the Gardens of Augustus with their panoramic flower-decked terraces en route to the sheltered bay of Marina Piccola. A short bus ride takes you back to your hotel.

You stay at the Hotel Senaria (breakfast included)

Day 7 : Capri: Monte Solario And The Grotta Azzurra

Meals Included: Breakfast

Take the chair lift up Monte Solario, the highest point on the island and one of the best viewpoints on the trip, to follow a panoramic downhill path to the island's most western lighthouse. Continue along the trail as it hugs the coast, past restored fortresses and tiny coves to the Grotta Azzurra, a natural sea cave with crystalline blue waters. Return to the hotel by bus.

You stay at the Hotel Senaria (breakfast included)

Day 8 : Leave Capri

Meals Included: Breakfast

We take you back to Capri port for the hydrofoil to Naples

Food

The cuisine on the Bay of Naples uses the freshest vegetables and the famous mozzarella cheese is always on the menu. Try it in salad with sweet tomatoes, baked with aubergine slices or on its own with an accompaniment of herbs. Fresh fruit features heavily too - figs are often used in antipasti along with slices of ham and what better way to finish off a meal than with a slice of fresh water melon? Pizza is a favourite dish all over Italy, but nowhere more so than here (it was invented in Naples!). The thinnest of bases are cooked in the hottest of wood ovens and are garnished with a mouth-watering variety of toppings.

The Amalfi Coast itself is not a wine area as such: the terraces are often too high for the vines to flourish. The region of Campania, however, has a number of good wines from vineyards further inland. Vines flourish too in the rich soil near Mount Vesuvio. Look out for Lacrima Christi del Vesuvio.

Accommodation

Your hotels are as unique as the islands themselves and include a family run hotel set within tranquil gardens overlooking the Bay of Ciraccio and a stunning monastery set within the ancient walls of Ischia's Aragonese castle.

Very helpful and prompt service

Very helpful and prompt service. I called to check for an already booked trip and once we sorted this, the agent was ready to help me with another booking as well. He actually waited for me to book my flight tickets, answered all my questions, informed me of all my options. Exodus is a tour company I am using regularly due to the quality of their trips, ease of booking and helpfulness of their customer service team

Stunning walking. Walking the Amalfi Coast

04-Nov-2021

This trip takes you through the most beautiful parts of the Mediterranean walking with a guide and also discovering the wonders of Pompeii and Vesuvius. The hotel had a nice feel as family run, spotless and comfortable rooms, we were well looked after for breakfasts and dinner each day, and the barmen fixed some mean cocktails for us.!

It's amazing what you can do in a week! Cycling the Dalmatian Coast.

08-Oct-2021

This holiday was extremely enjoyable. The itinerary is well planned and the route takes you to a variety of destinations. Not having been to Croatia before I didn't know there were so many beautiful small islands and I loved the ferry and catarmaran rides. The coastal route we took was dramatic and the World Heritage sites in Split and Dubrovnik very interesting and worth visiting. The Adriatic Sea was warm, blue and inviting, good for swimming even in October. The hotels we stayed in varied in size from medium to large. I particularly liked the one just outside Dubrovnik as I had a sea view. Tourists were plentiful in Split and Dubrovnik but in the other places we stayed there was an end of season feel and it was quiet on the roads and in the resorts. The food was good and our guide was always able to recommend a nice restaurant for our evening meal. The weather in October was good for cycling - not hot, partly cloudy most days and one day it rained!

Fabulous company and trip

06-Jan-2023

We went overland from Cape Town to Zimbabwe through Botswana and Namibia. What a fantastic trip. Our first time with Exodus although we have travelled extensively around the world. We would highly recommend this company for such a brilliant trip - we got everything and more all at a good price. Thanks to everyone involved. We are looking at our next trip!

I went cycling in Albania with exodus as my first holiday with them. Such a well organised and wonderful experience where I met multiple fellow travellers who have been advocates of them for many years. You can't argue with happy repeat customers and I'm planning my next adventure with them soon

17-May-2023

I've done 8 trips in the last 14 years with Exodus, and have been rewarded with a 10% discount on all future bookings. I feel very confident that I'll receive pleasant, efficient service, and have the unusual holiday experience that I'm looking for each time. I've trekked to the top of snow-capped peaks, wild-camped in the desert, seen amazing spectacles of nature, visited 4 capital cities in a week, and learned about local culture and experienced local hospitality in a way that I simply wouldn't on a conventional holiday. The quality of the accommodation and guides can vary, but this is mainly down to cultural differences and things that Exodus can't control. I've only ever complained once, my complaint was taken seriously, and I was sent a discount voucher - you can't say fairer than that. I remain a loyal customer.

21-Aug-2024

Exodus are generally a good travel company. Things tend to run smoothly and trips well organised. Their customers tend to be at retirement age. Trips are a bit overpriced. I would also avoid trips in Europe, as these often focus on more coffee stops and meals, rather than walking. I would also recommend making sure your guide records any accidents you have, hopefully not applicable. I had one on Sierra de Aitana which the guide saw and knew about, but he and Exodus said it never happened when I followed up after the trip. I wasn’t putting in a claim, just suggested a safety improvement. They have since apologised and acknowledged this as an error. They are a good reliable option for outside of Europe trips.

Food came quickly. Staff very friendly and polite . However the chef or person preparing the food did not seem to read the menu! If it says a meal should come with vegetables, you should not have to ask for them. They served shepherds pie with garlic bread! The munchies ice cream sundae said it should come in a glass with a flake but came in a little bowl with just a few munchies! When asking the staff were happy to replace and correct but customer should get what they order and what menu says first time round!!

If you like to be mistreated Exodus is perfect for you. If you enjoy terrible choices for hotels and pseudo restaurants Exodus is perfect for you. Careless about their clients and loveless about their propositions. Exodus has been a dissatisfaction and disappointment about every dealing i and my group have had with him. Especially a man called Simone who just cares about the money he can get from you couldn’t care less about service.
