Day 2
:
Visit the Pyramids, Sphinx & Egyptian Museum
Location: Giza
Accommodation Name: Cairo 5-star hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast
After breakfast we have a brief pre-tour briefing before we take you on a tour of Gisa and Saqqara. Gisa was built around 4600 years ago as a necropolis (cemetery) for the pharaoh Khufu (Cheops). The successor of Sneferu, Khufu was known as a tyrant and in his arrogance decided to have built a tomb that was bigger and better than all others. Standing 500 feet high and 750 feet at its base the Pyramid of Khufu is an awesome man-made structure constructed of giant blocks of stone covered in a hard limestone casing. The casing has, over the years, been stripped away to leave exposed the inner block structure. Together with the smaller pyramids of Khafre (Chephern) and Menkaure (Mycerinus), the majestic sight of these enormous structures rising out of the desert is a breathtaking spectacle. Here you have the chance to climb inside one of the pyramids (there are a limited number of tickets available, so we cannot guarantee this), and also to take a camel ride (approx. GBP 2-5 p/p for around 30mins). Close by, the mysterious Sphinx stands guard, as it has done so for thousands of years. You have another guided tour around the sphinx and some free time to walk around and take photos. We'll then head into the city and visit the Egyptian Museum (which houses a vast collection of artefacts from Egypt's past, including the famous King Tutunkhamun display)
Day 3
:
Cairo free time or optional tours
Location: Cairo
Accommodation Name: Cairo 5-star hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast
While the ancient Pharaohs had important settlements here, what can be considered the city of Cairo today was founded in 969 AD by Gohar, a Fatimid army leader, and El Kahera (Cairo) soon became the capital of Egypt. Subsequent additions like the El Azhar mosque, the Islamic University, and defensive walls and a citadel, built by Saladin in 1179, have helped Cairo remain Egypt's principal city. The 16-year reign of Ismail (1830-1895) ushered in a new period of expansion and modernisation in Cairo. Areas like Heliopolis, Dokki and Roda were added, while gardens, Opera houses, large hotels and wide, tree lined avenues were built. Further post revolutionary, urban expansion has left Cairo as one of the world's largest cities. Today it is a bustling metropolis of over 20 million people, a strange mix of modern and old, a unique blend of diverse cultures and a gateway to Egypt's past. You have a free day in the city today to either relax in your hotel, explore independently or take an optional tour. Tours available include: - a day trip to the colonial city of Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast, around 2 1/2 hours drive away. Here you'll see Pompey's Pillar, the Catacombs, Fort Qaitbey (which is built on the site of the ancient Pharos), the modern library, and enjoy a seafood lunch at one of the city's many fish restaurants - a half day tour in Cairo to the Citadel (a collection of mosques and palaces, with a great view over the city), the narrow streets and churches of Coptic Cairo, and the Khan al Khalili bazaar (a mazy market that offers a window to the past and a guaranteed souvenir). - a half day tour in Cairo to learn more about the history of Pyramid building, visiting pyramids and other ancient sites at Saqqara, Memphis and Dashour - a dinner cruise on the River Nile, with a multi-course buffet meal accompanied by Sufi dancers and belly dancers - a spectacular Sound and Light show at the Pyramids in the evening. These tours may all be either booked in advance or arranged while you are in Cairo.

Discover Egypt Tour
August 2023
Our recent Discover Egypt tour was just magic! A brilliant tour of Egypt's amazing ancient History. With a few extra excursions, we added the Roman and Greek history and more 'recent' Christian and Islamic time. The reps in the cities were beyond amazing. They made themselves available 24/7 and would move Heaven and Earth to make us happy! I particularly need to mention Hassan in Cairo and Mohammed in Hurghada. They looked after us as if we were their family.
Also our tour guide from Aswan to Luxor, Emad Aiad, was brilliant! Hilarious and so knowledgeable. He tailored the days to work for our family and we have learnt things we will never forget. Fayid in Cairo, was also exceptional and also arranged the tour to work for us best.
In addition, we were expecting a big group but ended up having a private tour around Egypt. This was so special. Fantastic holiday. It made travelling easy!!

Amazing Experience with Ayman!
September 2023
Totally recommend this Amazing experience with Encounters Travel. Ayman was the Best Guide! My son and I traveled to Egypt for the first time Cairo, Giza, Luxor and Aswan! Ayman was super knowledgeable, friendly and down to earth. He explained the Egyptian history on the sites we were visiting and answered all of our questions. We never felt unsafe or alone and we knew he was just a phone call away if we had a problem. We have beautiful memories and can’t wait to visit this beautiful country in the future! We will definitely use Encounters Travel and Ayman.

Fantastic Tour - Ayman is an incredible guide
July 2023
This trip to Egypt was truly life-changing experience - due in large part to the incredible work of our guide Ayman and the other local members of the team. If you do go through Encounters, make sure to request Ayman as your guide. He recognized that the little things matter to a trip just as much as the amazing sites.
Although we had some issues with the organization of the tour - our guides and contacts did everything in their power to make up for the shortcomings in planning.
Ahmed helped us get an early check in to our hotel in Cairo after a 4 AM flight where both my friend and I were exhausted. This enabled us to make the best of our day in Cairo and we were able to see several museums and visit the mummy room.
Our guide Ayman has a masters degree and it is immediately apparent in his knowledge of the sites. Not only was he able to tell us facts and figures, he was able to weave in stories about ancient Egyptian beliefs - truly painting a picture of how these people lived. He can read hieroglyphics and tell you what they mean, leaving you feeling ready to read and recognize the sites on your own!
After learning that we had a hard time on the long drive from Cairo to Luxor, Ayman organized a trip to a local grocery store for us and helped us shop for anything we may need so that the experience was better on the way back.
At one point in our tour - one of the tour members was complaining about the heat (despite signing on for a tour of Egypt in the middle of July) and Ayman bent over backwards to get her and the rest of our tour access to a hotel so we could sit in the air conditioning.
Ayman also worked with us to ensure that we could fit in a trip to the temple of Edfu in our itinerary (not originally included!) and it was a must-see.
My friend and I opted to add on the Sakkara and Dashur trip. We requested that Ayman be our guide for this extra and he did not disappoint. We felt so lucky to have such an expert with us and it made the extra cost of the add-on more than worth it.
We honestly can not say enough good things about the local guides and contacts. They truly made the experience more than just a trip.
TL/DR:
The good: The guides (Ayman in particular) and the sites!
The bad: The long drives and at times poor planning of the itinerary
The takeaway: Request Ayman as your guide and book this trip NOW!!! You won't regret it.
