This trip takes us north along the scenic Pan-American Highway, leading us to the fascinating Quitsato solar clock. This remarkable cultural site, originally constructed in pre-Hispanic times, was designed for tracking solstices and equinoxes. Located right on the equator line, it's often referred to as the center of the world. To savor the local flavors, we pause for a delightful coffee or chocolate break, accompanied by delicious Ecuadorian cakes that are akin to small, oven-baked bread with an exceptional taste. What's even more special is that we get to witness the baking process. Our next destination is Otavalo, famous for hosting the most extensive indigenous handicraft market in South America. This bustling market is open every day of the week. Here, you'll have approximately 2 hours to explore and shop to your heart's content at La Plaza de los Ponchos. Before reaching Cotacachi, we pause at a scenic viewpoint overlooking San Pablo Lake, framed by the magnificent Mount Imbabura. Cotacachi is renowned for its leather goods, and you'll have 45 minutes to browse through the charming craft shops. Our final stop is the breathtaking Cuicocha Lagoon, nestled within an active volcanic crater at 3068 meters (10,065.62 feet). This lagoon features intriguing islets or domes. After an enriching day, we'll head back to your Quito hotel, ensuring a comfortable and convenient return.

At the Hermanos Carrel Refuge, situated at a breathtaking 4800 meters, we start our ascent to the Whymper Refuge, perched at almost 5000 meters.
