This 3 days starter pack offers you a classical introduction to Ghana’s history and culture. Experience Ghana as the natives do, in its nearly undiluted naturalness, with memories worth repeating. Explore the rich history and culture of the Ga people of Accra as you visit one of the fascinating communities of Accra-Jamestown. You will experience the contrast of this sprawling township with modern Accra. Travel through the coastal lands of Elmina and Cape Coast to see the infamous Cape Coast and Elmina Castles and Forts. Crown your exploration with a visit to the Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s few surviving tropical rain forests and challenge yourself to complete the walk cross on the Tree-top Canopy walkway which offers you a picturesque view of the forests or choose a 2 km nature walk through the forest to discover the wide variety of butterflies, birds and exotic floral species and the medicinal values they offer.

Day 1 : Arrival In Accra

Location: Accra

Accommodation: Hotel

Arrive in Accra; meet assist and transfer to the hotel.

Depending on your flight arrival time the following sites may be visited today.

Begin the city tour of Accra, and go on a scenic drive through the beautiful and vast campus of the University of Ghana, Legon.

Visit Jamestown Community-One of Accra’s most historic neighborhoods where history resides on every corner. Best known for its lighthouses (the first of which was constructed in 1875 by the British) as a navigational aid for trading vessels sailing through the Gulf of Guinea. The original structure was ruined but a larger and more improved lighthouse completed in 1921 is still functioning today.

Experience the hustle and bustle of the Fish Market at the seashore as fishermen dock their boats and fishmongers sell their catch.

Late afternoon visit to the Brazil House, to learn about the seven Afro-Brazilian families who returned to settle in Ghana in 1836. Familiar Brazilian/Portuguese last names such as De Souza, Palmares, Azumah, Amorin, Da Costa, Santos, De Medeiros, and Olympio are abundant in this section of Accra.

The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 2 : Accra-Cape Coast-Elmina

Location: Cape Coast

After breakfast drive to Cape Coast – En route visit Independence Square where you will see the enclosed flame of African Liberation, which was lit by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1961. Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the final resting place of Ghana’s first president. Set in attractive gardens, there is an adjoining museum, which contains photos, artifacts, and insight into Dr. Nkrumah’s life. Continue to Cape Coast arriving in time for lunch. Late afternoon visit Cape Coast Castle a UNESCO World Heritage site which was one of the departure points for Africans being sent to slavery in the Americas. The Castle is home to the “Door of No Return”.

This evening goes on a guided tour through the ancient town of Elmina. At the harbor view the colorful fishing canoes getting ready to go to sea for another night’s task of fishing. This is a picture-perfect opportunity for photographers.

Day 3 : Elmina-Kakum National Park- Accra Depart

Location: Cape Coast

After breakfast, visit Kakum National Park. Kakum is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor; see birds, and butterflies and perhaps catch a glimpse of the forest's over 40 species of mammals, including monkeys and the reclusive forest elephant. Kakum is famous for Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy, a 1000-foot long and seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above ground.

You may visit Global Mama’s where you will have a workshop. The Global Mama’s seeks to create wealth for African women and their families. Here you can design and make a beautiful Tye-Dye cloth as a takeaway souvenir.

Early evening return to Accra; rest of the evening at leisure or transfer to the airport for your onward flight

Five stars are not enough!!! Just returned for 8 day Ghana tour and it was outstanding! From beginning to end! Our tour guide Elvis and driver Martin were nothing short of phenomenal!! They both provided educational and general information every step of the way. Every day my husband and I were provided with a verbal itinerary including history and other facts that we found so helpful. Every single day was filled with excitement and attentiveness from both of them. Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast - we saw and felt it all! All the tour sights were as described in our pre-trip itinerary and we were well pleased with how everything was handled - from airport pick up to airport drop off. I traveled to Ghana with ABTP on June 19 - 27 and I had an amazing tour of Ghana. Our tour leaders Doris and George were absolutely amazing and we had the best driver ?, plus one other gentleman who assisted our group with luggage etc. Doris and George were so professional and knowledgeable. We started our trip in Accra and then headed over to Kumasi and Cape Coast. This trip was very eye opening and nothing short of a true cultural experience with a history lesson from a different perspective. I can't wait to return. Our group of 22 members belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage Travelers Club had seen 9 sites during this trip. First of all, the itinerary you prepared to cover these places was very well programmed. And you and your partners followed and carried out the itinerary very successfully. We all were very happy with the bus, with our guides (Mr. Balla in Senegal – The Gambia part and Mr. Sory in the Mali part), from the hotels you chose, restaurant and the food. No one in our group during those 22 days had any health problems, not even diarrhea. I recommend you and your company to every agency which wants to arrange a West Africa tour.
