Day 1: Cuzco, Peru

Location: Cusco

Cuzco to Malaga High Pass, Mountain Biking to Santa Maria Village, Rafting Activity (L/D)
Today we leave Cuzco between 6:40 - 7:00am to journey by road in a van making our first stop after 1.5 hours in Ollantaytambo where we can have a quick breakfast and buy some snacks. Then we continue driving for another 1.5 hours up to the Malaga High Pass (4,350 meters) where our guide will provide us with a safety briefing before we begin our adventurous 2.5 hour bike ride down into the lush and humid jungle. We will see Huamanmarca Archaeological site along the way, cruise through fruit plantations and over rivers, before arriving to Santa Maria village (1,400 meters) at around 2:00-2:30pm. Here we will depart on a scenic 2.5 hour rafting adventure that takes us down class III & IV rapids on the Urubamba River (also known as Vilcanota River). Enjoy your night at a basic, rustic guesthouse in Santa Maria. (If you choose not to participate in the rafting adventure you can walk around the town on your own this afternoon.)

Day 2: Santa Teresa Village, Peru

Trek to Santa Teresa Village (1,680m) (B/L/D)
After an early morning breakfast, we will begin our day of hiking through the jungle mountains to observe beautiful pristine landscapes, abundant flora and fauna and friendly local people. Have lunch halfway during the trek and relax breathing fresh mountain air. In the afternoon we will arrive to Santa Teresa village (1,680 meters) where we will stay overnight in a guesthouse. (Optional hot springs at an extra cost).

Day 3: Aguas Calientes, Peru

Location: Aguas Calientes

Accommodation: Hotel

Zip-line Activity and Trek to Aguas Calientes (B/L/D)
Fly through the treetops on a 2-hour morning canopy excursion on South America's highest and Peru's first canopy zip-line. Traverse over 2,500 meters of cables with the longest ride covering 400 meters and the highest at 150 meters. Take an easy 3-hour hike along the train tracks from Santa Teresa to Hydroelectric Station where you will stop for lunch. Continue 3 more hours on foot to reach Aguas Calientes town (most people hike this portion of the trek but there is an optional train ride from Hydroelectric Station to Aguas Calientes if you're feeling tired). There are internet cafes, cafes with board games and cards, plenty of shops and places to relax there. Overnight in a hotel tonight for a well-deserved shower and good night's sleep.

Day 4: Cuzco, Peru

Location: Cusco

Explore Machu Picchu & Return to Cuzco (B)
We will catch one of the first buses (05:30 am) to Machu Picchu (25-minute ride) in order to appreciate the magnificent city in the early morning light as the mist dissipates. A walking tour (approximately 2 hours) is given by your guide and after this you can explore the mysterious city on your own. If you still have energy you can also climb the Huayna Picchu Peak (to be booked in advance at an extra cost). Return to Aguas Calientes by bus. If time allows, visit the local marketplace next to the train station and shop until the train whistle blows, signaling your return to Ollantaytambo. From Ollantaytambo, you will take a bus back to Cuzco arriving around 08:00pm. You will be dropped off at the Plaza San Francisco. Please make your own way to the accommodation of your choice.

What type of accommodation is provided during the trek?

You will stay in basic guesthouses in Santa Maria and Santa Teresa, and a hotel in Aguas Calientes for the final night.
Are there any optional activities available during the trek?

Yes, optional activities include visiting the hot springs in Santa Teresa, a train transfer from Hydroelectric Station to Aguas Calientes, the Huayna Picchu Trek, and the Machu Picchu Mountain Hike. These must be booked in advance and come at an extra cost.
What should I do if I don't want to participate in the rafting activity on Day 1?

If you choose not to participate in the rafting adventure, you can walk around the town of Santa Maria on your own in the afternoon.
What time do we leave Cuzco on the first day of the trek?

You will leave Cuzco between 6:40 - 7:00 am on the first day of the trek.
What is the itinerary for the final day of the trek?

On the final day, you will catch one of the first buses to Machu Picchu, have a guided walking tour, explore the site on your own, and then return to Aguas Calientes by bus. From there, you will take a train to Ollantaytambo and a bus back to Cuzco, arriving around 8:00 pm.

A bilingual guide is provided for the trek and the Machu Picchu tour. However, there is no guide for the bus and train transfers.

Is there an age limit?

No! Most of our bamba travellers fall between the ages of 18 - 35, but everyone is young at heart and welcome to come experience the world with us! If you are between the ages of 18 and 118, we invite you to travel with bamba and have the time of your life! Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Who will be my travelling companions on the tour?

Most of our trips cater to the adventurous independent traveller. In fact, many of our travellers arrive on their own and quickly find that they easily meet like-minded people along the way at their hostels, on transportation, or during activities.
Do I need travel insurance?

We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for your trip, especially when travelling in developing countries. Bamba does not include travel insurance of any type.Your current medical insurance may cover part of your trip, so it is important for you to become familiar with your current coverage. We recommend purchasing additional travel insurance that provides coverage for medical emergencies, emergency evacuation and repatriation, lost or stolen items and unforeseen cancellations. If you plan to participate in activities such as white-water rafting, trekking, sand-buggy rides, etc please make sure they are included in your policy.

If you are planning to make a trip to Peru, I'd highly recommend using Bamba Experience. We couldn't have asked for a better four day trip to Machu Picchu and I credit the amazing experience to our tour guide, Percy. Just finished the Jungle Adventure with Vidal and wow what an experience. Vidal was an amazing tour guide who was with us every step of the way able to answer any questions as well as provide us with some valuable insight into the past and present culture of Peru. Vidal’s knowledge and relationship with the vendors gave us a real authentic feel and experience of Peru. The bike riding was one of the most amazing things I have ever done in my life. The walks provided amazing scenery and the zip lining was an experience in itself!

This trip was amazing! I went on this trek with 6 other friends. We had Percy as our tour guide and we felt SO lucky to have him. He was accommodating, comforting and friendly! He made our trip what it was. Peru is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. If you love a mix of adventure and exploring small villages, this trip is for you!:)

My brother and I have just come back from the 4 day Jungle trek with Bamba and it is probably the most enjoyable and exhilarating experience that I have ever experienced. The two best things about this trek were the activities which were all great fun and without any of the stress to book them individually - personally I thought that the Ziplining across a valley in the mountains was my favourite activity

We were really satisfied with the tour. It was professionally planned and Bamba made sure, we always new what the next step of our trip would be. The guide (Junior) was very interesting and kind. We had a great time with him! He had a lot of positive surprises for us along the way, which we didn’t know was included. That was really nice. The jungle/adventure trek is a great alternative to the classic Inca trail, if you don’t want to trek that much. You don’t need to have a lot of experience with rafting, zip lining or mountain biking to do the trip. As long as you know how to ride a bike, you’ll be good :)

Our experience with Bamba was absolutely exceptional. I couldn't have asked for a better trip. Our tour guide--Vidal--was incredible. He became a great friend to us, and I highly reccomend him to anyone looking for a great time! This trip is something everyone should have on their bucket list.
